Millum and Ferguson
Here I have identified the different types of facial expressions commonly used on the front covers of magazines as identified by Millum and Ferguson. I believe one of the facial expressions that will be best to use for my dominant image will be Chocolate Box as it is quite a natural smile that would work really well for a pop magazine. Chocolate Box means that the model is either fully smiling or half smiling with the lips together or slightly parted. The model is usually, also, making a eye contact with the audience forming a direct mode of address. This means that the audience are more likely to buy the magazine as a relationship has been formed between them and the magazine. The other facial expression that would be useful to use would be Super Smiler as it is a very excited facial expression that is easily associated with a pop magazine. Super Smiler means that the model will have a full face and a toothy smile which will very easily grab the attention of the audience, making them more likely to buy it. Another reason they might buy it is because the model will be making eye contact with the model - forming a direct mode of address.

Institution Research
The institution that I think should own my magazine is Bauer Media Group as they do not currently own a pop music magazine or a magazine for teenage girls and so there is room for a magazine like this in their market. This would bring in more money for Bauer and would have a different target audience than any of the magazine's that they currently own.

Start of Lesson
In this lesson I will be using my previous collages to identify the generic conventions of front covers, contents pages and double page spread for pop music magazines. I will, also, find out what institutions own what magazines and decide what institution would own my magazine if it was real. As well as this, I will identify which magazines would be my competition if my magazine was real and demonstrate how my magazine would stand out amongst the competition.
End of Lesson
In this lesson I have managed to finish all of the Generic Conventions work and the Institution Research. I have now identified what the generic conventions of a front cover, contents page and double page spread are. So, I now know what I should include on my magazine. I also know what types of institutions there are.

Masthead Names Ideas
The name that I have decided on for my magazine is 'Lyrix'. The reason why I picked this name is because I think that it is the best name for a pop magazine as it is not too similar to another magazine or another product and it is short and snappy. The use of an 'x' at the end instead of 'cs' gives a quirky edge to the name and will make it more memorable with the target audience. It is, also, clear that it is a music magazine with this name unlike some other names as lyrics is the name given to the words of a song.
Font Ideas
Fonts from Hannah Ould
The font that I have chosen to be the font of my masthead is 'Chocolate Dealer' which is the third font down on the left. The reason I have chosen this font is because I think that it will work well with the theme of my magazine. I, also, think that it is quite a quirky font that will catch the audiences attention but wont be too overpowering and garish on the front cover. As well as this, I think that this font will look good with the name of my magazine: Lyrix. However, I may use some of the other fonts for sell lines on my front cover.

Colour Scheme Ideas
I have chosen to use a pastel colour scheme that consists of pinks, purples and blues. This is because most pop magazines use very bright colours that are quite garish and in-your-face - this will make my magazine a refreshing change and will make it stand out against all of the other pop magazines with the same colour scheme. Pastel colours are, also, aesthetically pleasing to look at and so the target audience will be drawn to my magazine.
Hair and Makeup Ideas
I have chosen these hairstyles and makeup looks to be apart of my magazine as they are mainly quite naturalistic. The hairstyles are those which are currently very popular amongst celebrities and social media - there are many tutorials on social media of how to achieve these looks which means that it is easy for the target audience to recreate and will make the model on my magazine more relatable and form a closer connection with the audience members. Th makeup that I have chosen are mainly quite minimalistic, with the exception of a few, as this may teach the target audience that you don't need to wear a lot of makeup to look pretty. However, the makeup that is a bit heavier, than the naturalistic ones, is again popular amongst social media and have a lot of tutorials showing you how to achieve this look - making it easy for fans to recreate. This will make the relationship between fans and magazine's stronger.
Costume Ideas
The costumes that I have picked to be apart of my magazine are mainly everyday clothes that some celebrities (such as Kendall and Kylie Jenner) have been seen wearing - this is to make the magazine seem quite casual and the model more relatable to the audience. However, I have included some dressier outfits that are easy for people to recreate if they wanted to. The clothes are mainly pink or have an element of pink in them so that it matches the colour scheme.

Magazine Inspirations
Magazine inspirations from Hannah Ould
I have picked these front covers as part of my magazine inspirations as the models all have different poses so that I can see what poses look good that I could possibly recreate for my magazine. Each of these magazines are different and I plan to incoporate elements of all of them for my magazine cover. I have chosen these contents pages as they have all managed to fit all of the information onto the page and it is packed full of text and images - I hope to do that same with my contents page. I have chosen these double page spreads as they all have a similar type of layout which works really well. They, also, have an abundance to say as the text is quite small with a bug dominant image and some small sub images. I will try to recreate the layout for my double page spread.

The Brief
Briefs
When centres choose briefs to offer to candidates, they should be guided by their strengths in terms of resources and expertise. Centres should also bear in mind the key areas: forms and conventions, production contexts, the role of technologies, audiences/users and representations.
The set briefs are as follows:
Print
Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.
Main task: the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style). Maximum four members to a group.
~ All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of FOURimages per candidate. ~

Start of Lesson
Today I will start my mood board and proposal table for my magazine.
End of Lesson
I have done my mood board on Pinterest and have attached it to my blog. I have created my moldboard on the theme of Pop Music and I have chosen images that I feel effectively reflect that theme. These images will inspire me when it comes to creating my own music magazine. I have, also, done my proposal table in the form of a Prezi presentation. In my proposal form I have outlined what I will include in my magazine. As well as this, I have created a mood board on my magazine inspirations where i have included images of other front covers, contents page and double page spread article from existing magazines.
