Flat Plan for My Front Cover

Flat plan for my cover from Hannah Ould

Rationale

My front cover will have one dominant image framed by numerous different sell lines and a few sub images. I was inspired by 'Seventeen', 'Top of the Pops' and 'Cosmopolitan' for my front cover. The dominant image will be a medium close-up at eye-level of my model. The mise-en-scene will be outside in a park surrounded by autumnal leaves from trees. Seventeen magazine has similar covers to this, except theirs is taken in summer with the sun shining. The language and register will be informal as my magazine is aimed at 11-13-year-old girls and they will respond better to informal language (such as: puns, slang, internet lingo, etc.). The colour scheme will consist of pastel colours: pink, purple, blue, etc. My model will be wearing a beige coat and black jeans. My model will be smiling and will have a happy facial expression so that the target audience will have a more positive response when they pick it up. She will, also, have a fun/informal pose so that she seems relaxed and at ease so that the audience will feel welcomed when buying the magazine. As well as this, my model will be looking to the right – symbolising that she is looking forward to the future. The lighting will be natural lighting enhanced by the flash on my camera to give a more professional look to it.
The masthead will be written in ‘Chocolate Dealer’ from dafont.com to give it a unique, feminine look. The name of the magazine is ‘Lyrix’ and this will be written in pink in the top left hand corner of the magazine overlapping the top banner. The masthead will take up two thirds of the way along the page so that it captures the audience’s attention and draws them in to the magazine. Next to the masthead the name of the model will be written in ‘Olympic Branding’ from dafont.com in blue. This will contrast the pink of the masthead and add a nice juxtaposition to the page, making the models name stand out.
The top banner will be light pink with ‘Real Life Stories’, ‘Special Edition’ and ‘Posters’ written in ‘Hollywood’ from dafont.com in alternating colours of white and purple to make sure that the audience can distinguish between the words and to make it more eye-catching. If the audience sees that this is a special edition they may be more likely to buy the magazine.
The main sell line will say “Katie’s Comeback” in ‘Thinking of Betty’ from dafont.com. This will be situated on a slight diagonal slant in the bottom half of the page in a light blue. The consonance of the ‘K’ sound in the main sell line will make the words roll of the readers tongue as well as making it stick in the audiences head, meaning they will be more likely to buy it.

Underneath the models name will be a sub image of a bands posters. This will attract the attention of the target audience as many young girls have boy bands posters in their bedrooms – the fact that the magazine is advertising free posters will make the target audience more likely to pick the magazine up and buy it.
